I just looked at 154 lowboy. 60" deck nice looking but it has loud noise like a noisy shaft when idling and wants to kill when trying to engage the Pto. It also is very noisy when driving in low gear like a trans. Or final drive noise. Did these tractors have noisy trannies or what? thanks, DTK.

The noise your hearing at idle is probably the pto drive belts. Every one I have heard, including mine, does that. Mine is also noisy in 1st, and if you try to engage the pto fast it will bog the tractor down, but I would check the bearings on the deck too.

I have mowed and worked on a few of them.. I just do not see the need(kinda like an 8N),under powered, first gear is about the only working gear, and my 60in 22Hp mower will run circles around it. I do like the looks of them though.

I agree , they are a cute little tractor I just wondered with the noise it was making if it needed a bunch of repairs. Thanks DTK

I have two of them, they are good little machines, and they both made a lot of noise when I bought them. Check each pulley, I am sure you will find one if not all have bearing issues.
