Say i found a bolt in the bottom of the narrow cover, underneath,my good M, It's about a 1/2 in diameter x a 1 1/4 long fine thread. How long will it go with out that??

I'm not sure where exactly you have this, but it reminds me of clutch / throw-out bearing / pressure plate area. If that's the case, I'd find out for sure before I drove it.

Harry, look where the drive hub attaches to the input shaft of the transmission. It has a heavy key, so will still drive the transmission ok, but would probably cause wear over time if not tight. Is the heavy washer still there? Bob

No, it's not there. But cant find it in the parts book either ! I got a TC 28 manual, nothing there, or the IHC web parts book, they must of discontinued the M Farmall. The oldest tractor i could find was a 1958, 660 tractor

If you are talking about the narrow cover by the hyd. pump the transmission drive shaft coupling is held on by part # 181 427 screw cap hex-hd 1/2-20NF x 1"
If that is where you found it I would drop the pump and check it out. i looked on all the clutches for a M and there is no other bolt that is 1/2 NF in the clutch housing. Hope this helps.
