looking to possibly buy a farmall 826 with the german diesel engine, dual wheels, orignial windbreaker and a make shift canopy/roll bar. just want some input on what i should look for and what to expect with the tractor. says it has been rebuilt once. think i has around 5000 orignal hours on it. how are the engines, transmission, and it doesnt have torque ampfiler. going to pull a disk with it and a john deere planter with spliters on the back. also it has only one remote so i will want to add a second how hard and how much money do you think ill spend on getting all i need for that second remote? thanks

well the first TURN OFF for me would be the lack of T/A , now as to WHY they had to rebuild that German engine in under 5000 hrs. ???? so what's left ft end ware , pedal ware , seat suspension ware, hitch ware oil leaks , hyd system health . and tire condition . everybody is afraid of the T/A's . Ya know i still have OLD Customers that are still running there I H tractors with the same T/A that i installed back in the 80's and still going strong. and trust me NO ONE IS HARDER on a tractor then a dairy farmer . since there is only 24 hours in a day and If they are only milking twice a day up to 8 hours of that day is spent in the barn 7 days a week and every day twice a day one or more of there tractors are used for daily chores . So for them it is not the tractor that puts penny's in the piggy bank it is the cows and the tractor is a necessary evil and it receives the least care and suffers the most abuse . Then ya have the ones that can not manage there time well and everything they do is on a dead run it becomes harder on the tractors . then ya have the ones milking three times a day and oh god does there stuff suffer. Now they may not get ten years out of a T/A . And around here a I H tractor is worth 2500-3500 LESS then with a weak T/A tractor.

Gonna cost you between $500 and $1000 to add the second factory remote depending on if you can find a deal. The valves are not necessarily hard to come by but the ones that have them, are proud of them. Plus you need the lever and linkages.

for a down and dirty second remote, take a look at a fasse hydraulic multiplier. shoups has em, about 500 and some change part number 700-1510, shoup parts dot com. its an electric valve that splits one set of remotes into two, just use a switch and your current control lever.

I have overhauled a lot of them just because the O-ring in the bottom of the sleeve in the block got hard and it was seeping out of ant-freezer in the pan all I did was put new rings bearings and O-rings in the block and head-to-head redone I made sure that the valves were set for the correct Clarence for a better starting and a lot of people did not like The ta they said they was a headache when they went out but I like TA they cost just as much to replace the straight shaft they are the best fuel efficient engine you'll ever see as for the remote just go to the salvage yard and ask for everything you want it's the same thing in the 706 through 1566 as for the electric valve on the back of the tractor like that one guy said they can be a headache but they are a good tractor

ah why would you want a electric valve switcher when ya can get what ya need to make a two valve set up Factory for 2-400 bucks with everything ya need to do the job . They are all over the place if ya just take and hour or so and look .

the fasse is pretty much plug and play, and can be easily moved to another tractor. if he wants to retain the originalty, hunt down a used factory set up.

WHERE? Best price I've found on just the valve is $549.
