300U Power Steering

Since I installed power steering on my 300U, have not been able to get fast hitch to raise anything other than at full throttle and even then very slowly. Have rebuilt the priority valve and even had it flow tested to see that it is only diverting 3 gpm to the steering. Also tested pump to see that it is pumping 12 gpm. Am considering adding a small pump from surplus center that would power the steering and removing the priority valve. I have an alternator with a threaded tap the could run the pump. I would need to add a pressure limiting valve to the system and could make a small reservoir from square tubing that would sit above the rocker cover. How many gpm's should that new pump develop and at what rpm's? Could a power steering pump from a pickup pump possibly work? Would appreciate any thoughts from you experts!

The power steering pump from a car or light truck was commonly used to run a
torque generator on tractors. You can probably find pictures of such installations
on this site. That setup was especially useful for tractors that did not have live hydraulics.

It would be my guess that one of the remote valves is by passing, maybe even on, with a stripped handle.
