Sad finale of 504 and 706

HI all;
My two tractors were up and running, the 706 was great all winter long doing its job with a 3 pt hitch snowblower.
But then I had a barn fire and everything was gone.
The tractors will never run again--too much stuff hanging off the heavy iron got burned.

But the fire wasn't too awful long before the Thayne Volunteer Fire Department arrived. So I was wondering if the heavy iron such as gear box, transmission, engine blocke, etc., would be of any use to anyone? Or does it just go to the scrap heap.

Hate to see that happen to any tractor never mind something that was pretty good. I would be interested to know what would be salvage worthy just for conversation sake.

ANy location that has gear or engine oil in it that is not carbonized is likely OK. When oil gets hot enough to begin to Coke (turn to black crust) that part is likely to have been heated to the lower critical point of the metal. Not good. Jim

I was a volunteer fireman and saw a few barns and sheds burn with tractors in them . IF the tractor wasn't directly hit with a stream of water and the cast allowed to cool on its own it's probably ok . I have done this and have had good luck . Just remember if there's a gasket or seal it needs replaced. look at the engine for hopefully antifreeze still in the block . Yes its going to be a long process but if the tractor has sentimental value and you want to keep it go for it .
