460 Starting Problems

Battery is good; shows discharge when starter button is pressed, NOTHING ELSE. "Jumping" terminals on solenoid makes solenoid spinning sound, but won't engage. What is wrong? What do I do next? Thanks, kelly

#1 how do you know the battery is in fake good?? Even a new battery can be bad unless tested fro both voltage and load
#2 a solenoid cannot make a spinning sound it is a heavy duty relay so it can make a click sound but not a spin sound. The starter can make a spin sound and even then not engage the flywheel due to a low battery and not enough amp/volts to kick the bendex in

Depending how you jumper the starter , the starter could be spinning, that is if you jumped the heavy terminals only. If you jumped the small wires it should not spin because the bendix should have pulled the gear forward into the ring gear, and if it did something stripped out. Back to the initial question, the solenoid terminals inside get burned. You can pull it apart and turn the copper washer and the solenoid will be good for a few more years if the solenoid will pull the gear forwards. As always check all the connections for loose or corroded connections which is the first thing to do even if they look alright.
