Towing a Hydro

Yes it is perfectly safe. BUT YOU MUST PUT THE RANGE SELECTOR IN NEUTRAL. I am not talking about the speed ratio lever, the lever on the right hand side is the one that MUST BE IN NEUTRAL. Moving it ten feet with that range lever in high or low can tear the hydrostatic motor apart.

I am assuming you are towing for something other than a rear end or range transmission failure where parts could be floating around .
 
Re: Steering without running engine. Only if the steering wheel pump is in really good shape. On the plus, the 656 does have mechanical brakes, so there is some control there.
