Farmall B Starter Ring Gear

Does a Farmall B starter ring gear bolt on to the fly wheel or is it pressed on like most others. I have one that needs to be replaced and by looking in through the starter hole it looks to be bolted on the fly wheel is this correct?

Thanks for any input.

It been a long tine but I believe you sweat that ring gear on and if I am not mistaken that ring gear can be reversed ( if it hasn't already been).

It is shrunk on. Heated to 250 300 degrees and placed against a rib. It is removed in a similar way heating with a torch to expand and fall off. (or grinding a slot and breaking it off) Jim

Its easy to heat to loosen up and it will fall off. Same to install just a little heat and it will fall rite on. They can also be reversed and used again. New replacements are only around 35 and many do have them for that price. Big job is splitting tractor. Then after replacing put a new Bendix on the starter so as to not damage new teeth and you will be good to go for another 50 pluss yrs of service.

They are "shrunk" on. If you are seeing bolts you are actually looking at clutch pressure plate bolts or someone has "modded" it.

No sweating, just heat with torch and pound off.
