Farmall 656 parts lookup help

I'm helping a friend that inherited a 656 that hasn't run in several years. Carb is severely gummed up.

I'm trying to look up the part number for the fuel shutoff solenoid that screws into the carburetor bowl on a IH carb. I can't seem to find it in the online Case/IH parts look up. Nor can I find any carb related info for that matter.

Also I think I should be able to test the old solenoid by using a jumper wire but that didn't seem to work. I hope someone can help me out here? I have the carb off and have cleaned it but need to go get a carb kit and trying to avoid making a couple of trips to the dealer. (He needs to get the tractor out of the current place in a few days)

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Barnyard,

I was sitting. Thanks for going the extra mile looking it up.

Did I test it correctly? The plunger didn't move when I tested it? Also is it necessary? Dave

You can cut the needle off and get it going. Decide later if you
need it. The purpose of it is to prevent run on after shut
down(dieseling).

(quoted from post at 02:58:27 04/28/17) 85? That's a deal. Price one for a Briggs or Kohler?

The price I paid at the dealer was actually $65.00. I hope I never need to replace one on a Kohler.

Pete 23,

When I asked my friend what he wanted to do, he said buy it. I brought it along to Case/IH dealer. The parts guy brought one to the counter and we opened the box and the plunger had a pointed end and the old plunger was much shorter and had a flat end.

Took it to the service desk and the manager said some cut the end off. It was just as you said to do...

You learn something everyday. Thanks
