Transmission 4th Speed Gear

Rebuilding a transmission on a 1955 Farmall 100. I can't remember how to install the 4th speed gear on the countershaft and the shop manual doesn't say. One one side the flange or sprocket is about 1/4" longer than the other side. Do I insert the long end on the shaft first, or the short end? I've attached a video for reference.

Thanks.

The parts diagram wasn't very helpful. However, I was able to dig back through some older videos I took of this rebuild and found that image that seems to confirm the larger end goes on first.

Another issue I'm now having is part # 51 of the parts diagram, a washer. I don't recall removing one when I disassembled the transmission. The countershaft is female threaded on the end presumably indicating a bolt to hold the washer on, which I also don't recall removing. Indeed, the parts diagram doesn't even identify a bolt. The washer is priced anywhere from $30-40. I can't figure out what its purpose is. Thoughts?

The bolt and washer hold the bearing on the shaft (maybe more accurately hold the shaft in place in the bearing). Neither one would be effective without the other.
