Been fixing up this 400 I brought last fall. Noticed in the parts manual that there is support/stablizer bracket I don't have. I took couple pics to show what I'm talking about. #5 are both there, both have been repaired. #24 is missing, no idea if it was there where would it mount to?

24 is for diesel tractors. Gas ones were mounted like you picture. If I remember correct the originals were 3/16 thick and 1 or 1-1/4 wide with a round hole in one end and slotted holes in the other end because the length used could vary a little bit depending on steering unit placement. Used to have some NOS mounting straps around but don't remember seeing them for a while. may give a search and measurements of the original straps. Have made them from 1/4 thick straps before.

They needed a brace on the output end also as they would bend those factory braces. You have to be darn sure also, there is not side strain on unit with braces, meaning steering shaft should be as free with braces tightened down as it is with none. Not one of IH's better ideas. They do work good though when everything is cricket.
