IH 884 TA Eliminator

I am in the process of eliminating the TA on my 884. I finally have the disassembly completed, and am ready
to reassemble with
the eliminator coupler instead of the TA. There were no instructions with the coupler, and the eliminator issue is not
addressed in any of the manuals. It is extremely important that I do not have to get into this again. My concern is the
hydraulic system that operates the TA also operates the PTO and power steering. In removing the TA, is some special
accommodation needed to be sure that the other functions of this hydraulic system are not compromised? Should the control spool
be removed from the TA body or left in? If anyone has knowledge of these issues I'd be infinitely grateful for your help!

#1 in the diagram for the IPTO drive is the shaft that makes it all work. If it is not there, or a replacement that functions in its place, the tractor will not move. Jim

Jim, thanks for your effort to help, but the diagram and information pertains to larger tractor models. The 884 is one of the British built utilities. The TA configuration is entirely different. But, thanks again for your effort. I highly respect your expertise and advice!

Hi Cool, about 12 years ago my brother had a T/A eliminator installed in his 684 by a retired IH Mechanic. IIRC he completely removed the T/A pump completely. If you have an I&T manual see page 30 figure 62 explodes view of T/A pump.
I believe the IH Mechanic connected the #1 tube to #4 tube BUT I am just going by memory from what my brother told me.
Please don't take my memory as the absolute truth. Hopefully someone else will reply here.

Thanks, JimB2, that also crossed my mind, but I don't know how the hydraulic power would be re-routed from the main hydraulic pump to the PTO and steering.

Are you saying that nothing needs to be done to get hydraulic power to the PTO and power steering? These are originally powered by the TA pump, so after discontinuing the pump how does power get these parts?

I think you may be mistaken in the idea that the TA pump powers the 3pt and steering. Most of those 84 series did not come with a TA, and therefore no TA pump. Logically the hitch and steering would be powered off the main pump, right?

The 3-pt hitch is not powered by the TA pump, but perhaps I've been misreading the manual. I've deduced from the manuals
stating that maladjustment of the PTO or malfunction of the power steering affects the correct operation of the TA. It doesn't
actually say that these are powered by the TA pump. I apologize if I misunderstood. Thanks!

Sorry, I meant PTO, not 3pt.

Don't take my word as gospel on this, I'm just thinking logically here. It does not make sense to make such a major design change for so few tractors.
