666 Gear drive with T/A issue

was plowing earlier today when I got into some heavy ground, gave the T/A a good solid snap back and got thru it, Then threw the lever forward and it did not disengage, the tractor will not come out of the low side of the T/A I pulled the little cover off the top of the center section by the starter but could not see much except the T/A clutch Any T/A experts out there willing to give up any tips or advise on what may be going on?

If the TA won't come out of the Low side it means that the TA clutch is not engaging.

In the high side or direct, the entire TA assembly and drives the output at engine speed.

When you go to the low side, the TA clutch is released and the speed is reduced by the planetary gears rotating and driving the output at a lower speed. The TA housing is locked into place from rotating in the opposite direct by the ramp and rollers.

It is a T/A clutch issue , now as to why or what happened i can not see it . Maybe and issue with the T/A pressure plate , maybe and issue with the disc. what is it going to take to fix probably a split at the bellhousing . It also could be that the lage spanner nut holding the T/A clutch drum has backed off , here again your going to have to split the tractor . Having the correct tool makes this job easy but it can be done with a LONG drift punch.

So excuse me for asking a dum question but when you say a split at the bellhousing, do you mean to split it like you would to do an engine clutch? is the T/A clutch accessible thru that split or does the center section need to come off the transmission section to repair the T/A clutch, the bellhousing split is not bad did one a few years ago when we did the engine clutch and ring gear, again thanks for all your help

If you just just need to access the TA clutch, which sounds like what your issue is, then you can just split it like you would when replacing the clutch.

Ya just split it like your doing a clutch and move the rear frame back far enough to fit your body size in with some wiggle room and you remove the clutch release shaft and throw out bearing and you remove the IDPTO input and you remove the cover plate over top of the T/A clutch and you are there , you then remove the six 1/4 inch bolts holding the pressure plate and take it out , Opps ya have to pull the input shaft out first and it just slide out BUT mark it so you know what side goes back into the engine clutch do not get it turned around and put in back wards. Once you have the PPa and disc out check the T/A clutch flywheel make sure it has not worked the spanner nut loose and that the spanner nut lock tabs are seated and not ripped off. If you get a new or reman PPa once you have it installed do not for get to remove the shipping bolts .

Piece of cake and i rate this job as a 12 pac with a buddy.

Gave up on Flat rate hours , now rate jobs by beers needed .
