Cub Rings

Thanks for your help on my Farmall C rebuild. Engine runs great. See Engine Rebuild, 03/21/17.

Now working on Cub that needs rings, as confirmed by compression test and valve check. Engine runs well but smokes. Standard 2.625 inch piston and ring, bore within spec, no cylinder scoring and no piston scoring. If I replace ring with standard my ring gap is .026, maximum spec is .017. Can I use a .010 oversize ring on a standard piston and bore?

You would have to file the end gap to specs in the smallest part of the bore. It may end up close to std.

If you need rings then ya need to bore it and put the next size in where the bore cleans up , maybe .010 or ya may have to .030 if you want it correct , if ya want to waist time then yea you can bandaid it by hand fitting .010 over rings and in time start listing to piston slap and if the slpa enough then they can break and you know what happens then .
