41' M govenor

All ive got is idle and wide open. There is no in between. Throttle position in 2 or 3 is same as 6. Any ideas? Ive never fooled with the govenors, i did lubricate all the linkages but it didnt help.

Maybe Bob Lenze, from Carrol Iowa, will read this and tell you whats going on, or you could call him,712- 790- 9965

John M may have the answer. If you loosen the screws where the throttle tube goes into the linkage housing on the top of
the governor housing and the two 5/16" bolts right below, and the two screws on top that fasten the breather tube to the
governor and turn the breather up out of the way, you should be able to slide the tube forward enogh to see if the
governor throttle shaft is engaged in the slot of the carb throttle shaft. If it looks ok there, take a good look at the
vertical linkage that comes up from the rocker in the governor housing. Does the arched lever on the back side of the
governor move through its' full range when you work the throttle lever?

If this has not found the problem yet, take the side plate off and check to see if the weight pins are badly worn ,or any
thing else that might be obvious. Let us know what you find. Bob

I forgot to mention to remove the two screws that hold the gov. throttle shaft tube to the carb. These will be the first
ones to tighten when you put things back together. It would be a good idea to check inside the tube to see that there's
not a lot of dirt and rust in there. Bob

One thing to mention is the tube.
My Super M had lots of gunk built up in there to an extent that it actually bent the shaft. Because of that it only had idle or wide open throttle. The gunk and bent shaft made if difficult to turn, so the governor would be trying to increase throttle but nothing would happen till the tractor would be dogged way down then the spring tension would over come that and the tractor would rocket up to full throttle. Almost threw me off the seat more than once.
This also made if difficult to get the thing to idle down again.
I replaced the tube and shaft with one from a scrap yard.
