Farmall m miss

Well let me start at the beginning. I have a
farmall m I pull in 3.5 MPh class. It is
stock stroke has dome pistons, lp head, msd,
Dennys carb. I blew two head gaskets and put
arp head studs and new head gasket in two
years ago. It's been sitting for a year. I
went to start it last week and has a very
bad back fire coming out of the intake. Any
help will be appreciated!

Could one of the intake valves be stuck open possibly from sitting? Timing/firing order I would assume is correct. Bad fuel, float sticking, etc. Just a few things I would check.

My first guess is moisture in the distributor cap, or a cracked or carbon tracked cap.
Second guess is a stuck intake valve
Third is a misplaced spark plug wire.
Clean and dry the cap.
Check wires for firing order.
Do a compression check. Jim

The Dennys carb would be my first suspect, but Jim suggestions are a good place to start. You must have done some other work to keep blowing head gaskets, or the studs were just wore out and stretched to the limit. Both of my Ms are set up the same way, except for the carb and MSD, and one has been that way since the late 70s and has never had any head gasket issues. My other has around 90 hours on it and has never given me any trouble.

Did you torque the head properly? Doesn't sound like you did to blow two head gaskets that should last 30+ years.
First run a compression test....Then..
Put a timing light on each plug wire to check if its got consistent spark, or use the screw driver technique.
If its got good spark pull the valve cover and take a look...
After that its got to be the carb.
Dropping the bowl out and cleaning things isn't that hard.

The guy that put them on said that the bolts
were stretched so that's why I bought arp
head studs. Thanks for the help. I'm going
to start checking things over when I get
home from work.
