I've pulled the PTO unit off the tractor and have it sitting on a work table. According to instructions I have the pump unit should come away from the rest of it having taken out the four three eight's inch bolts holding it together. I've rapped it with a dead blow hammer repeatedly and now have the pump unit suspended from the ceiling with the 540 pto about an inch off the table. Should this come apart and am I missing something? The unit would always run when on the tractor, it wouldn't shut off.

To take one of them units apart ya start at the clutch pack end and remove the housing covering the clutch pck . Then ya tall all the clutches and plates out , NOW comes the fun part ya need to have a spring compressor to compress the BIG heavy spring and remove the snap ring and let the spring off easy . . Then and only then can you get the clutch drum off and proceed with getting to the PTO brake and 540 shaft and seal .

If you contact Harvey gross at 810-638-5569. He has them already rebuilt just swap it out faster and about the same price without the work. Or take it to your friendly or not so friendly CaseIH dealer.

try and get a hold of the january-february 2017 red power magazine the is an article in it on how to repair pto clutches using home made tools . there are pictures of each step .

Thank you so much for your replies and interest. Thinking about it overnite, there was a space between the clutch plates, I worked a screw driver in between the plates, one after the other, the pump unit eventually let go. I had downloaded instructions from here and ytd's tractors. I think that it has all gone well. I'm ready to reinstall the unit tomorrow. I have a transmission brake on order and will expose the range transmission to see what I see. Can anyone tell me where the oil pressure lite shows up on the dash? I don't see it in the wiring diagrams. I take it the juice for it comes directly off the battery, I see that much by way of the diagrams? Thank you.

Transmission brake is in the speed transmission, park pawl is in the range transmission.

The 06 series tractors the engine oil and trans lube used the same lamp in the instrument cluster. The lamp is supplied power from the key switch and grounds through the sensors which are normally closed switches.
