You guys all know what a tractor sounds like with a bad ring gear.You bump the starter to hear a grinding noise instead of starting.I met an Amish man who told me you can split the tractor and move the ring gear to a good spot.He said the engine stops usually at the same area.So I got an idea of how not to split the tractor to move the gear to a good spot.I used bestline anti friction additive to my oil hoping the engine in theory would turn to a different spot on the gear.Guess what it worked and keeps on working without the grinding bad ring gear.

The stopping point is probably moved a fraction of an inch. as Teddy52food noted. Warmer weather would be a far more likely ingredient. Compression pressure on the next to fire cylinder, as the engine stops, causes the engine to stop at the same few degrees each time. Half the number of cylinders get worn spots. A new cushion clutch starter drive, is best non invasive surgery. a ring gear move or reversing it on the FW works. Best of luck. Jim

You'll have to forgive the general population's skepticism with regards to snake oil remedies, because they rarely work, and if they do work the effects are almost always only temporary. It is extremely rare for a snake oil remedy to hold up over time.
As you said, we will see. It did not cost you much in money or effort so you stand to lose very little.
If you do have to split the tractor, don't waste your time moving the ring gear. Put a new one on. It's not that big of a job if you take your time, think about what you're doing, and invest in appropriate equipment (it doesn't have to be thousands of dollars either).

Just as easy to hold the brake with it in gear as you shut it off to fix it as the anti friction dope. The brake deal is cheaper and may be more effective in the end. The brake will cause it to not stop in the same place always.
