Farmall M (Char- Lynn power steering)

Four years ago we had order the kit for the Char- Lynn power steering. We dad installed it on the Farmall M because my da had a hard time steering the front single wheel out on the flied. The problem seems to be the tractor still turns hard like it never was on it. We took it to a tractor shop they worked on it but it still feels the same hard to turn. What I think is interesting is the filter /reservoir has this block unit under it hooking up hoses. It looks like the same unit on my case 430 power steering. I would like to ask does char Lynn power steering make there own Reservoir unit for this system and could it be that this one might be the wrong one for this system.

Here is a picture what we got going on maybe this will help.

That looks like a complete Char-lynn system to me. Maybe the pump is no good? Is it hooked up right? Is it filled with oil?

Hopefully you didn't pay this so-called "tractor mechanic" when he couldn't fix it. Odds are he didn't do anything but look at it.

have you tried jacking the tractorup so front wheels are off the ground? possibly the difficulty is beyond the ps unit in front steering unit

This tractor was at two different tractor shop in Nevada. one in Carson city and one in Reno. Reno shop said it worked but to me it does not. I still say it turns just as hard before we put this system on it. Steering worn is lube I always lube it when I pull the radiator out. the bottom gear is lube I try to check it every year. Must be the hook up on the system or the block with the filter on it. thanks for you information.

If you feel its not working you may be correct. I have one on a wide front tractor and it is 1 finger at idle. Defiantly jack the front up and make sure there is not another problem you are missing.
