BN main belt adjustment

Hey guys. I'm a little stumped with my 47 BN when it comes to adding tension to the main belt...how is it done?

Thanks!

The top pulley is mounted on a slotted bracket. Loosen and slide upward. Do not make it real tight, 5/8" deflection with good thumb pressure between the pulleys. Jim

do not try to turn the nut next to the block but turn the shaft using wrench on the shaft. The nut behind the mount will slide up when the shaft is loose as it rides in the slotted bracket.

Thanks for the tip. Looking at my tractor now and I'm not seeing the bracket. Looks like the pulley is hard mounted to an appendage of the upper water neck?

I'll try to get a better look in the daylight.

That's the bracket everyone is talking about. It should be slotted so you can move the pulley upwards and tighten the belt.

It is entirely possible that a previous owner broke off the slotted piece, and welded/brazed on a hard mount as a repair. You never know what's happened in the last 78 years. In that case you will either need to live with it or find a good used part to replace the upper water neck.
