Wide front B?

A fellow and I had a discussion yesterday evening regarding A and B Farmalls. He was under the impression that one could special order a B with a wide front on an A with a narrow. It supposedly had something to do with orchard models. This was news to me. Appreciate a knowledgeable response or two on this. Thanks, gm

You could certainly purchase the parts and do it yourself but even in the days before OSHA, IH had the good sense to not offer the A/SuperA with a narrow front end from the factory.

You could also install an A bolster and wide front on a B, but it's not "correct" because the pivot point is offset to the right. In order to line the front wheels up with the back the left knee has to be extended much farther out than the right. It was never offered from the factory.

I've seen examples of both of these customizations. You can tell they are definitely not factory.

As Jim so succinctly put below; No

No Farmall B ever came from the factory with a wide front
No Farmall A ever came from the factory with a narrow front.

The parts will interchange. It is an easy thing to swap from one to the other, and many hack jobs have been done mixing and matching parts to create all kinds of configurations for many years, but none are from the factory.
