Transmission dipstick

Would depend on the length of the standout the dip stick was in on the 706. Early models has much shorter standout on cover so dip stick was shorter. Sorry, can't think of a better name for the pipe that protrudes from the cover that the dip stick fits into.

In that case the dipstick would be shorter, which wouldn't be a bad thing on an 856 because the oil would be a bit over full when the short 706 dipstick said it was full. Common to fill these tractors 5 gallons over full.

In the case of using an 856 dipstick on a short 706 transmission filler neck, then the oil would be under full, and the dipstick might catch on a gear in the transmission.
