1936 F-12 proper color

Am getting to the point where I'm starting to think about painting the F-12 I've been working on. Serial #FS 58394. That makes it a 1936. The information I have is that the color changed from grey to red in November 1936. Does anyone have info on month of manufacture by the serial number?

This tractor was red when I got it, looks like it has been painted a couple times in its life (red both times). I've been scraping around and can't find any hard evidence it was ever gray, but the serial number would seem to put it in the earlier part of the year based on serial number range of 48660 - 81837 for that year. Thanks.

Your tractor was built in January of 36. It was Gey from the factory. The original grey was an organic enamel and was very short lived, 6 months on a dealer lot according to IH. Most all of them were painted red during the IH service and
repaint programs

Not sure. It seems there is a lot of argument about the "proper" color gray since nobody has a color picture of a new F-12 leaving the factory!

The best authority I know is one of the authors of the F series originality guide, He recommends Martin Senour #1657761 (acrylic enamel) as the most authentic color grey for the series. It was NOT battleship grey as IH used blue tint to make the grey cover better. Battleship grey is 1/2 white +1/2 black no blue and was not used by IH.
