Anyone have any experience with the refrigerators? There is an auction April 1 in North Vernon Indiana with one and says it works. I have never even seen one that I know of so might go to see what it is.

Also, if someone is looking for a 140, there are a few on the bill too, along with a Leader, etc.

I already have too much projects so I need to leave the check book at home.

I don't have a link to the sale but search under Pete Tempest auction, Owens Auction Service should find it.

ih made referators and frezers in the 40s threw the 50s. they seem to last for years. I have two of them that work several difernrt models.

My folks had an IH chest type deep freeze since the early 1950's. Took 3-4 men to carry it in/out of the basement. Lots of heavy gauge steel used in it, think the compressor was big and cast iron!

IH refrigeration equipment was made in Evansville, Indiana. Freezers, fridges, even window air conditioners. It all started with them making milk coolers for dairy barns.

Son worked in the warehouse of a big furniture & appliance store in high school. He calls home one Sunday afternoon. "Come over to work with your truck". He had a 1954 IH fridge with freezer that still worked! The gasket on the door was junk. Price was free. I had to wait till he got home from work to unload it. I cut the wires to the motor but left the light working. I store my oil, filters, and grease in it! They were known to be energy hogs compared to today's fridges.

Have a IH refrigerator setting in the basement right now. It worked when I unplugged it about 10 years ago. All the seals are shot, but it stilled cooled. The freezer my folks had must of had 5 inch thick walls. Back then it was the cats meow.

I've got a matching pair in the shop. Fridge and Freezer both made April of '51. Both still work great. If they take a bit more electricity, I don't care. Try and buy a fridge made today that will still be working 70 years from now.

I gots a '52 model refrig working in the garage that I found at curbside one rainy day. Opened the Town & Country rear door, slid it in; let it sit for a few days and plugged it in. Yup, gasket is poor and I've seen shinier ones but, it keeps some full-flavored beer, apples and pop cold. Folks can use the old freezers as a rodent-proof feed storage unit. Someday, if you have one of those freezers and you are selling the house you can say "It goes with the house."

Mom finally had to give ours away, she'd waited years and years, family kept growing, it just would not quit and she needed a bigger one.

I have one that was bought in the 40s. It came with my house when I bought the house. It has been plugged in and has worked this whole entire time. Hasn't had to have any repairs either. Although, I think it was recharged with freon one time. But that was probly 20 or 30 years ago.
