Better Hydraulic couplers?

Is there any tool that makes it easier to connect the hydraulics on IH tractors?
I have the standard end and sometimes it's a pain to plug in the hydraulic hoses.
I might say that maybe I'm getting older and don't have the hand strength that some 20 year olds have. But if you get some oil on your hands, it's hard to push back the opener, even if you had the strength.

This connector is standard on these older International tractors, right?

Is there some tool that makes it easier to connect this?
What do you use to connect the hoses?

Thank you!

Those are the wrong kind of female couplers for that application.

Those are break-away couplers, meant to be mounted by the sleeve so that the body of the coupler floats free. You push the hydraulic hose in to connect, and pull to disconnect. No moving the sleeve is necessary when they are mounted properly.

What you need there is a standard quick disconnect coupler. You can identify them by the fact that they have a much shorter sleeve that is knurled. The sleeves are designed to be moved by hand and move very easily.

I've had this problem also with my 706. It's a real pain to hook up the hoses. I have to use a hammer and tap most times to get them hooked
up. What are the brands and actual name of the correct type of female couplets I need? Do you perhaps have a picture?? Thanks Cmore

I find the trick is to push straight in, slightly off will make them almost impossible to plug in. Also shut off engine and relieve all the pressure with the hydraulic valve. Seems to work for me. I like the safety feature of uncoupling if you for get to unplug before driving away. Of course I've never personally done that (wink wink).

There are better couplers like stated before. I have also found that if you follow a process when unhooking and hooking them back up it is easier. First when disconnecting, lower the equipment to a resting place and shut the tractor off. Move the hydraulic lever each way and release the pressure on the hoses. Disconnect them . The reverse is done then when hooking the tractor back up . Get the equipment hooked up, shut the tractor off and release the hydraulic again by moving the lever each way. The couplers are a lot easier to put together if there is very little pressure on the check valves of the connectors. Hope this helps.

You can get the bracket through Shoup, or any dealer that will mount the couplers in that clamp like bracket. The couplers will have to have some hose on them so they can move with the pushing and pulling. The pressure also has a big effect on them. If you go to a junkyard you can get some with a shutoff lever on them from the 66 series models. Or you can get them from other aftermarket places one would be Shoup in Kankakee IL.
