Farmall SMTA LP Head Install - Breather Tube Help

I am rebuilding a Farmall SMTA engine. The head was cracked in 13 places, so I decided to spend the money and buy a LP Head from Bates Corporation. According to their site and others that sell this head, they state: "The head will bolt right on to the SMTA engine." I am ready to install the head and the breather tube from the old head goes over the valves and screws in on both sides of the head. On this LP head, there is a place on one side of the head, but not on the other side for the tube to connect into. Has anyone ever installed an LP Head on a SMTA gas engine or can anyone provide me with a contact(s) to ask? I will be contacting Bates to see what they have to say. Thanks for any help!

You don't use the tube over rocker arms. A short pipe (2 inches or so) goes into the hole on top of head (front end of head). Then a fitting goes into rocker arm cover on top with hose to air cleaner. Memory here, but I think you can use the orfice fitting that was originally on back of M head. Front to governor is same as the M.

Thanks Pete for the reply. The sellers of these heads state that they were made for 400 / 450 series tractors but will bolt onto the SMTA. "Just block off the breather hole. Does this sound like an option? Thanks

Probably easy to find a salvage valve cover from a 400 or 450 and use it. They have a 1/4 pipe thread opening on top. At first IH used a steel pipe and fittings to the same opening on intake pipe that the SMTA does. Then later a PCV hose connecting the valve cover and air cleaner intake pipe was used. You can use a 45 degree angle fitting at valve cover and connections for a hose to air cleaner on yours. With a riser pipe in front head hole it will work like a 400 or 450. Don't remember IH using a fitting with a restriction hole on those.
