Farmall MD correct thermostat

I am trying to find the correct replacement thermostat for my MD. I've done some research online and most people say that it is the same as the gas M. Is 160 degrees correct?
I also found a red power topic about it, and someone said that a "Stant 13436" thermostat will work as a replacement. Any ideas or comments? Thanks in advance.

You say ANY ideas? I installed new thermostats in my H, and it ran so cold, I finally installed shutters. Now it finally warms up, even in winter.

Great point, I considered that. I have a neighbor who has a set of shutters for a M. That would help increase the water temp.

These tractors are somewhat rare and very expensive to repair, so I wanted to control the engine temp as close to spec as possible. I would hate to crack the head

Regulating the flow of coolant using a thermostat ensures a consistent temp through all 4 cylinders. Without one, the front cylinders would run considerably colder as the constant flow of cooled water goes past them.

You can get the part number off the Case IH website. I bought my thermostat either fron CaseIH or Steiner, don't remember. It has to have the tall sleeve to correctly seal the bypass port in the casting.

We used to put a piece of carpet over the front on ours for winter running so it would warm up some. Looked funny to see it covered completely with a carpet.
