Farmall A: how to remove axle

I'm replacing all the rear end seals and gaskets on my 1940 Farmall A. But, I need to remove the axle to replace the outer seals on the final drive. I removed the inner bearing cover, and unscrewed the bolt threaded into the end of the axle. Then hammered on that end of the axle hoping to drive the axle outward. Nope. What am I missing - what holds the axle in place? Press the shaft out?
Thanks for the help.

On the opposite side of the final drive, where the axle exits the final drive, there is another square bearing retainer. Pull the four bolts. Now the only tight fit you will be fighting in driving the axle outward is the fit of the bull gear on the axle.
