Alternator Help

Purchased a tractor with a new alternator that was not on it. Found a diagram on here and wired it accordingly. Switch turns power off at points like it should, after it starts it charges as it should. When you push switch off it continues to run and keeps running even if you disconnect battery cables. What do I have crossed up? Anyone have a different diagram?

Easy. Put a diode (pull one out of a junk alternator trio) or get one drom the internet. The diode goes between the alt #1 terminal, and the ignition resistor where it connects to the ignition switch wire. (not the coil side) The diode should conduct toward the alt, but not from the alt. The alternator regulator (inside it) puts power into the wire after it starts to charge. The diode stops it. Another way to do it is to put a 10 ohm 10 watt resistor in the wire as above. Another way is to wire a light bulbe (marker light bulb is good, not LED) as above. this will also do the job. Another way do it is to put a push button in the system that just gives the #1 terminal 12v when you push it in for a moment, Starting the charging, then doing nothing. this is not connected to the ignition at all.
