Have the head checked for flatness/cracks. Use a high quality gasket set like Felpro, and follow the gasket makers recommendation and IH torque order and spec. All will be well Jim

Thank you I'm going to take the head to RF engine in Morris Mi to have it looked at.
They should have a good gasket kit for it.

Jim i gave up on Fel Pro a long long time ago . I use Victor gskt.s only and they have had two listings on that use the better one , yep it costs more but it is well worth the money . With the fel pro i have had weepage coming out between the metal surfaces and the permatorque will not hold under field work. even after you dress the head .

Yep seen many of them that way. Get the head rebuilt and milled and only taker off what is needed to get it FLAT get the valves done . Then clean and chase and inspect each and every head bolt for damage , Then go buy yourself a 1/2-13 BOTTOMING tap and chase each hole in the block , then use brake clean and clean all the holes and blow them dry . Use a LIGHT COAT OF engine assembly lube on the head bolts when going back together . Use a three step torque while torguing the head . while your at it have the rocker arms refaced at this time because you will get a BETTER valve set easier . When you get it all back together then set the vavle cover on and just lightly snug it down and run the engine for around a half hour and then go back over the head bolts once again and when your done then go back over the center 6 bolts one more time . Then do another valve adjustment and now put the valve cover bqack on and tighten it down , then go back over the manifold bolts again and do this every so often till they get set in , yea i know this is a pain in the donkey doing the manifold HOT . Myself i have one special six point long box wrench for this job .

Well any GOOD parts store can get them , now as to where i get mine from you can not deal there as it is a Jobber supply house and you have to be a reg. engine builder to do this . Parts stores can buy there . . You want the copper steel gskt. they come in the valve grind gskt. set . I use a good multiple coat of copper coat on both sides .

Farmall 706 Where do you live near Morrice MI I live about 10 miles north of there. If you can't get the gaskets there you need try D&D in Corunna Richard or Raymond are good parts guys. Richard owns the place.

Is this the same tractor you said fluttered at full throttle? I'm surprised you couldn't hear the variations in the starter sound when cranking it telling you there was an issue. I guess some guys ears aren't as mechanically inclined as mine. Glad you found the problem.
