pert6ronix electronic ignition unit for WD

I would like to know the pertronix electronic ignition to fit a WD 6 distributor. Would like to replace the points and condenser with a pertronix unit

For the short amount of run time that a gas start diesel runs on the distributor there is absolutely no reason to install those worthless electronic kits. If you have the system wired properly and are killing the power to the coil when it is running on diesel you should have no issues with the point and they should last many years before needing replaced. If you are burning points then you have a issue that needs addressed. I have 2 super md's with distributors and have no issues with the points, personally I prefer mags. Both my md's have mags and they are great since you don't need a battery for it to run and these engines start by hand very easily. I personally would put a mag on it for easy use. Jim.

Hi Jim,

The TD 6 I have has always started good with the distributor and pertronix electronic unit I put on it.
additionally I installed a 12 alternator on the engine. The 6 I have has the 248 cu in 4 cylinder diesel engine. I just wanted to have the magneto as a back up. Do your tractors use the IHC H-4 mags? I had 3 td 6 crawlers. Recently sold two of them . One had a wico mag and always started good. The other had an H-4 IHC mag and it always started good.
My remaining TD6 has the distributor with the pertronic usit.

Yes both my md's have the 248 cu with the h4 ccw mag and my 53smd and 54smtad both have the ih distributor with points and condensor. None of which have ever given me any trouble.

Jim,
Tractors ( dozers I have and had ) are used very few times during the year. Our place is near the ocean. The dampness from the sea would cause the points in the dozers and my other tractors to oxidize with in six months. changed all our tractors to 12 volts and electronic ignitions. Ford 8N, Case 320 industrial, Farmall Cub, Ferguson TE 20, Super C IHC, and several tractors we sold: one super c, 2N ford, and one crawler. When I sold our 1948 TD 6 had to remove the electronic ignition and install a wico mag we had. The other TD6 had the regular H-4 magneto. HD 6 was direct start diesel
For me I have had good luck most of the time with the pertronic units. Wish I still had the wico mag. Bought it new 40 years ago but still have an H 4 mag.
