2nd compression ring on cub piston

1953 cub---putting on piston rings, & the instruction sheet
shows the 2nd ring with bevel up.

The "pip" on that ring would be down if the bevel is on top.
I was always taught that the "pip" should be installed up on
rings. What is your guys thinking on this?

The old top ring---which I assume to be original---is bevel
up, & the second compression ring is flat---no "pips"

This is a PRS60 ring set.
Thanks.
Jim

Guess I should add that the beveled ring is black in color
& the non-beveled ring is silver in color.

I may be mistaken thinking the silver colored one is top
compression.

Follow the directions. The bevel up is the guide. Rings can be used for multiple applications. The bevel indicates the orientation when used a a second ring. Jim

Hi, Jim
So are you saying silver square cut ring on top &
black ring with bevel up for 2nd compression?

Instruction sheet shows beveled rings with bevels
up in all instances---no square rings at all.
Doesn't mention color at all.
