When I was 10 my brother in law bought a new 1951 M, My dad bought a new CO_OP E4, the E4 would out work the M, but I liked driving the M, and have wanted one ever since, I bought one yesterday and hope to get it ready to use soon, It had a valve job and new rear tires,

Maybe it is the wide front but that looks more like an H. Obviously you can look at the serial number to confirm. Nice tractor either way.

Steering column is a much steeper angle on an H, and also the H does not use that setup for the Charlynn power steering. It is an M.

You can always tell an M from an H by looking where the two little cultivator bracket mounting holes are in the grill, on a M they're in the third set up of slots, on a H they're in the top set of slots. Also an M's battery box is under the rear end of the fuel tank, an H's is on the left side under the fuel tank. Do you think you'll like that gawlky wide front with the wheels so far out front......I sure wouldn't...., but, different strokes for different folks I guess, somebody liked it...... What ever that looks like a pretty decent old tractor......got potential, that's for sure.

Rusty, the angle of the steering shaft identified it as an M for me as well without looking for other "tell tale" features, Hal.

that is a nice straight looking m!! i have 3 m's, 42,48,52, and a 53 super. my 52 has a factory wide front, the rest all widowmakers. never really had a problem with the wide front. lotta guys say you need a country mile to tun one , but i got no problem. maybe i farm more in a straight line!! lol. great find and enjoy your m!!!!

I had a neighbor about 10 miles away, he had a Super M and E-40 , he said they were pretty close to the same power, but, he like each tractor for different jobs, have fun with the M

If viewing from a distance, I always look for the starter and battery location. Unless I'm mistaken, an M starter is always on the LH side whereas the H is on the RH side.

Anyway, looks like a good tractor. I hope she serves you well whether doing work or just sittin pretty :).

Looks good, I put a lot of miles on two Ms as a kid, 48 and a 52 plus a Super C. When the Super M came out I thought we needed one but it never happened so I bought my own a few years ago. Have absolutely no use for it but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Gab, having a use for it is totally irrelevant. So long as you can keep it under a roof, start it up and drive it once in a while, nothing else matters.

the Super M did have more power then a stock E4, Dad put the kit in this E4 and widened the real wheels 3 inches, loaded the tires and 2 sets of wheel weights.
