706 injectors,

Hi, i was wondering if anybody had a picture of the page or a few pictures of the pages out of a 706 manual that would explain how to adjust the injectors and nozzle pressures, if possible... I know i sound cheap for not buying a manual but that is how broke I am. Im not necessarily going to adjust the injectors, because the nozzles are most likely bad. OH and that reminds me, if Nobody has any of the information I'm asking for above, If somebody could list the link to the nozzle tips, i remember seeing them a month ago on this forum, but can't find it, i thought they were like 30$. I have a complete break down of the injector on a picture, but, it doesn't show me what any of the parts are, or where i can get them... its just a picture... any thing would help guys, thanks... I would like to rebuild them myself, I know how to build a pop tester, but once i take the injectors out to pop test them, i want a rebuilt one going back in no matter what if you know what i mean..

Parts 6,7,8, and 9 are the nozzle assembly. It's more or less a one way check valve. It has to hold pressure without leaking off. Most will hold a bit with a very slow leakoff after several hours use. Lots of valves get failed on the poptester that are actually good to use. I've seen the valve 9 pull through the body 8 before. Parts 6 and 7 could be changed to attempt a pressure change, but I don't know anyone who ever did. In my 40 plus years of diesel injection service these valves ether work OK, or leakoff so bad they can't be repaired.

They probably were $30... back in '83. Today, from C-IH they are $239 each, (new) rebuilt for $140 each. Did my 460 about a year ago.

I have built and installed shims to increase opening pressure. If you can get it up just under, or at 1000 PSI this engine will start, and run much better cold. You do have to advance the timing a bit to compensate for the increase of psi. It is A LOT of work for what you gain though. Al

Okay! thanks for the info. I finally did find the nozzle and it is $30 per nozzle. Here is a picture of the nozzle.

So when you said 6,7,8 and 9 were part of the nozzle assembly, does that mean that 6 7 8 and 9 are all included in that $30 dollar nozzle?

30 dollar Injector Nozzle

The nozzle tip shown advertised for $30 is for a direct injection engine and has nothing to do with a D-282 engine. Your original post and picture is the nozzle for the 706. The number 6 in that illustration is made in several different thickness and is used to adjust the valve lift off it's seat when fully open and is measured with a dial indicator. There is no real adjustment for opening pressure except a new spring. Some guys will play with shims as suggested but it really is pretty futile in my opinion. They either work or don't. Have to be pop tested properly to know if any good or not. If you look at the bottom of the nozzle tip and the valve pintle is recessed into the body more than a few thousands of an inch, the tip is most likely seen it's better day. They do lose a pintle now and then when the top retainer end wears.

Okay, thank you a lot Pete, I have just decided I'm just going to have someone rebuild all 6 of the injectors, I have some saving to do, but in the mean time I guess i can try and find the cheapest place to have them re corrected. I wouldn't mind sending them off either, but then again... hopefully the rebuild costs for each injector is $100 or less, if so That will make it easy for me. But then I have to have enough money to make sure I can get the seals o rings that go between the pre cup and injector. If i can figure these last things out, ill be out of everyones hair on this forum. i know i have been a nuisance. If i only have the money to get 3 rebuilt, well, il be getting them rebuilt and installed right away, you know, then as i get the extra cash, i can finish the remaining you know.
