Farmall 560 steering

Got the tractor running. I want to thank everyone for their help. Now the front steering is not working. I did have to pull the front end off to replace the front crankshaft pulley/vibration dampener. I am assuming I need to bleed it but not sure how I do that? I did open the front plug on top of the wheels under radiator and filled it up with fluid. What else can I check?

Manual or power??

Check the pressure and return lines are on the right elbow fittings at the valve, I accidently got mine crossed last month after replacing the cracked steering cylinder on mine. Won't work at all if they get crossed putting pressure feed line on return elbow.

the power steering pump "piggy backs" on the hydraulic pump. Oil flow from hydraulic filter goes to regular pump then power steering pump so if filter gets plugged or hydraulic oil low you will loose the power steering also

My idea is to lift the front wheels off the ground and turn the steering wheel left for a bunch then right for a bunch back and forth. It has worked for me. The wheels need to be able to move. Jim

Ok, Jacked it up. Started it up and spun the steering wheel. I guess you can spend forever(if front wheels don't move)? I never hit a stopping area. I did that for about 10 minutes. How long does it take to bleed?

What do you mean "never hit a stopping area"?

The front unit bleeds easy if the pump is working.

Has the steering ever worked right???

A 560 has a mechanical shaft running from the steering wheel to the steering box on the front of the tractor. You can still steer the tractor even if the power steering is not working.

If that shaft is turning and the front wheels are not, then you did not reconnect this shaft properly at the steering box, or something broke.

No it has never worked. What I was told(from the guy I purchase it from) was that the steering does not work if the tractor was not running. That it would not work without it running. So I'm guessing it should work without it running? The shaft turns fine to the front box underneath the radiator. So I'm guessing something is broke in their?

If you are sure the input shaft is turning and the wheels are not................You need to remove it and open it up.

The only way to tell what is broke.

You should buy a manual for the steering BEFORE you start, lots of stuff happening in there & you need to do it right.
