12 volts to 6 volt starter on my cub tractor

All my older IHC and ford tractors have 6volt starters. I have changed them all over to 12 volts and the starters being 6 volt have held up fine for years. Bought a new 6 volt starter for my farmall cub from our host. It lasted about 5 starts with 12 volts. Had the original starter rebuilt by acme electric in Seattle. It is working good. Worked for 8 years with 12 volts.
Wanted to know if others have used 12volts on their 6 volt cub starters.

AS a past used tractor dealer and farmer sure I've used a 6 volt starter at 12 volts and all was well. HOWEVER it can be a bit tough on starter drives but using a smaller rated battery and/or lighter then normal cables helps soften the blow while still allowing for fast cranking and good starts.

Was this new starter a Chinese aftermarket unit?

If so, that was your problem.

6V starters work fine on 12V, as long as they are not near death already (i.e. if the starter goes bad, it was going to go bad sooner rather than later anyway), and you do not crank on them excessively (i.e. no more than 10-15 seconds at a time).

Correct. I bought the farm all cub about 10 years ago
Switched to 12 volts and the starter lasted 12 years
I"m sure it was well used when I bought the cub
Bought a new cub starter for $165. Lasted about 5 starts with
starter on not more than 3 seconds
Took it to Acme rebuild in Seattle and they told me they were
not able to parts for it. Took my old delco remyr>To them. They rebuilt it with no problems and it works perfect
perfect. According to the rebuilder the original Delco
starter was a superior unit. Maybe we could build things
again in USA

Return not allowed. I let them know that I had used
12 volts. Took it to acme rebuild in Seattle. Told me the starter had junk parts not compatible with parts they could get
Had them rebuild my delco remy which works perfect
According to acme rebuild the delco remy is a superior unit
Maybe we could build quality starters once again and let American workers build them
