in process of pulling injectors out of a small diesel engine. any recommendations will be appreciated. how to clean them, how to test them, replace or not, etc., ? how to install, etc. etc.

Some injectors need special tools for dismantling, or internal damage will be done. Also need a poptester to check the opening pressure after assembly. Just finished some 1066 injectors that needed tips..

Some injectors require a special puller, some just a prybar.
Some bend easily, some don't..
Its always good to spray the base w/ penetrating oil before starting.
An injection shop will have the required equipment to check the injectors..
Some charge for the service and some don't, just call around.
I don't recommend cleaning them.. nothing short of disassembly or a sonic cleaner will get any results and you may end up doing more harm than good.
Depending on what your working on, there are copper gaskets that seal the compression at the bottom of the injector..copper gaskets that seal the return fuel and some have a dust seal where the inj. goes into the engine.

still have not got the cockshutt pump off to send. Guess from post you also do injectors. What state are you in?
