Re: 1936 F30 rebuild begun

what did you use for pistons ? I have a pressure plate that has extra springs inside the regular ones and it is a hard pushing son of a gun .

OK thanks , I wondered about trying that , looked like they had the right compression height to work. Maybe one of mine will end up that way .

Compression height is the same as F30 piston. Piston pin is larger, but the standard F30 rod bushing has a thick enough wall to bore out and hone to fit the larger pin.

That is basically a 10-20 block, so it is possible to put 15-30 pistons in a 10-20? how
about 22-36 pistons? Did you pull the F30 sleeves out and replace with a different sleeve?

Yes, the same thing could be done to a 10-20 engine, or even a W30 if someone wanted to. I used standard F30 sleeves that were rust damaged and had them bored. 4.75" 22-36 pistons would not work to put in an F30, the sleeve wall is not thick enough to remove that much material.

I believe he just bored the F-30 sleeves out to 4.5 inch and put 15-30 pistons in it , not enough meat to go all the way to 4.75 for the 22-36 pistons.

(quoted from post at 13:00:53 03/30/16) Will the 15-30 pistons work with the 10-20 or F 30 rods and wrist pins?

This question was answered in one of my previous posts, please read through them carefully.

(quoted from post at 06:26:02 03/31/16) will those pistons work with the F 30 connecting rods? I want to increase the HP of my 10-
20.
Thank you

Yes. All that needs to be done is to enlarge the inside diameter of the piston pin bushing to fit the larger 15-30 pin......

By the way, you don't have to use F30 con rods in your 10-20 you can use the 10-20 rods, they are the same as F30 & W30 rods anyway.

Nice to see someone restoring these old gems instead of scraping
them!

Do F30's have an overdrive or what is the extra lever for on the
transmission?

Hi kirk I will try and post some pictures this weekend off my f30 I got the head back from the shop the next problem is on the clutch where it comes out off the bell housing thanks peter

I believe that lever engages the pto. The transmission is different than a F-20. Good work Kirk! Keep posting pics for us.

Keep us updated Kirk. I always enjoy seeing your rebuilds. I've got enough F-20 parts laying around I may build one soon. I need frame rails though....haha

F20 or F30, Evan? If you need F30 frame rails, I can supply you with a pair.

Kirk, Is that the one going on the picker? How many do you have running, I know you where
selling one last year. oldiron29

No, the picker is not going on this one, I will have to rebuild another for the picker 8) I only have 1 F30 running at the moment, once I get this one running I will have 2 runners.

I currently have 5 F30s, but 2 are becoming parts tractors...

Make sure you have the spark plug wires in the correct rotation. I believe it is clockwise from the driver's seat.
Yes, it sounds like my w-30 when I had it wired in the wrong rotation!

Believe me, I have checked and double-checked and TRIPLE-checked to make sure the mag puts out good fire, is timed correctly and wires on the right places. All that checks out so it must be something else. I am going to try using a different carb next, one that I know works.
