IH 2000 Loader Hydraulic Hoses

Took all the hoses off my 2000 loader and took them to a local shop to see about having new ones made. It has 2 additional hoses that someone used to replace 2 of the metal lines. the shop quoted me $650 to make new ones. Is this excessively high or about right? how much should I expect to pay?

Seems high to me. Also would depend on how long the hoses are. Size and such. 3/8 would be cheaper than 1/2 inch. Though the lines are probably 1/2 inch. Pressure rating on the hose would also affect price.

Hard to say without knowing what size hose,
pressure rating and lengths. The hose is
the cheap part though...fittings aren't
cheap!

All in all that's probably not an out of
line price considering you can get the
exact lengths you need with the correct
fittings. Without the two extra hoses, your
talking about 12 custom hoses.

System pressure is 1600psi so I would guess they would use 2000psi hoses. I measure 1/2" inside fittings, so I;m guesing it's 1/2" ID hose.

The bucket hoses on mine are $95.00 each, and there are four of them. About 18 inches long each.

OUCH!! Even checking SurplusCenter.com, 1/2" x 18" with 1/2"NPTM ends is only $6.85 plus S&H.

3/4" x 18" with 3/4" NPTM ends is $13.95 + S&H each.

For those prices, you'd be better off buying thread-on quick connectors that can be reused, then getting hoses with NPT or your preferred thread end.

Now you see why farmers only replace hoses when they blow.

Most IH implements use SAE O-ring fittings, which are a bit more expensive. I suspect the loader is the same.

Also a loader uses a LOT of hose. Remember you have to run from the rear of the tractor all the way to the front.

Last fall I had two hoses made up for my dump trailer. They were 3/8" with the SAE O-ring fittings, and under 10' long each. That cost me $140.

Frankly if you want these places around for when you need them you should support them even if it costs a little more.

Yes but there are multiple grades of hose
available and the higher the pressure
rating, the higher the cost. As mentioned
all the cylinder fittings are SAE o-ring
fittings which are more expensive. Usually
custom hoses come with swivel fittings,
which again are more expensive.

Buy a standard hose and the length may not
work very well, plus you will need multiple
adapters and swivels to get everything to
line up and fit right. By the time you go
through all that, you have even more places
to leak over time and probably have not
saved any money. Not to mention the install
is not as clean.

I replaced one of the lift cylinder hoses
on my 2000 loader last year and I'm pretty
sure it was $50 or so.

I had a JD 4010 gas some years back where the FEL only used short hoses at bend points, then used rigid piping the rest of the run. Was a neat and good-looking method. Oh, Koyker K-5 loader - not a JD loader.

Yes, SAE is a much better fitting for hydraulic hoses!

1/2" X 18" JIC 8F Swivel X JIC 8F Swivel SAE 100R16 HYDRAULIC HOSE ASSEMBLY 4000 PSI for $12.95

3/4" X 18" JIC 10F Swivel X JIC 10F Swivel SAE 100R16 HYDRAULIC HOSE ASSEMBLY 3000 PSI for $17.95

I'm using 18" as that is what is listed in the OP. And I still stand behind getting hoses with threaded ends and adding connectors when possible. Not always is this going to be possible or recommended. Doesn't make financial sense (in "my" head anyway) to use connectors on every single hose, as when the hose one day goes (or gets damaged), the connectors would still be good. On the other hand, I can also understand where someone wants a new hose WITH new connectors, so not trying to pick a fight or anything. Just boils down to personal preference.

As for buying locally, that's a great thing! But we live a long way from town and don't go often. Usually I can more easily justify ordering my part(s) and having them delivered over making a special 100-mile round trip.
