Super H distributor

After sitting in the pole barn for 13 years I'm starting to bring her back to life. It's a 1953 phase 1 SuperH. Currently I can't get fire to the points. New battery, points, sparkplug wires. Checked ground etc. The tractor was running when I parked it although the ignition switch is not working now, I can direct connect the ignition wires. No sign of mouse chewing wires. Should I invest in a new distrbutor? I would like a shop manual if one is available. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

The distributor itself has nothing to do with getting electricity to the points. Check ALL the wiring, and check to see that the wiring connections on the points are done correctly. Run a jumper wire from the battery directly to the coil. If you then have spark, there is a problem with the wiring.

service manuals should be available for your H, they range from the I&T manual that helps if you have some mechanical knowledge already, to the Blue Ribbon Service manual originally from IH. I wouldn't replace the distributor yet, they can usually be repaired. Your problem may be as simple as the points needing to be cleaned or adjusted. It sounds like the operators manual could help you out there. If you are goig to keep the tractor and use it I think it is wise to buy every manual you can for it. If you check on this site they have manuals for most tractors and are good people to deal with

Thanks, my shade tree mechanic is heading up the job and has world's of experience with farmall but had some health issues lately. Your
suggestion sounds right. Where would you connect the jumper? Battery negative to where on the coil? Thanks again

slowwwww down

One thing at a time.

Service manual is good start, doubt you need new distributor.

Why do you not believe ignition switch works?

The switch is not physically damaged so it may be ok. Will an Ohm meter test it? I have the Farmall owners book and a overly broad IT magazine like manual which is of little help. I am getting the IH service manual. Thanks for you input. Slow down is right, after 13 tears.

Go get a test light with pointy end on it, should have them at auto parts store.

Best diagnostic device ever made.

The jumper wire would go from the battery terminal of the cable that goes to the starter switch, yes it would be the negative if the tractor is still configured in stock positive ground form. The opposite end would connect to the coil terminal that DOES NOT go to the distributor. Which in stock form would be the negative terminal. Good luck!
