I would like to take some of the end play from the steering shaft. This a 63 loboy and my question is, can I replace the seal and thrust washers without removing the base of the steering housing?
Thanks for any comments.

f you are talking about the steering wheel shaft, there is a spacer used on some of them that may be missing or out of place. They frequently came off when the shaft was removed and not noticed. If you are talking about the bottom shaft that moves the tie rods, thr play can be removed frequently by removing the cotter pin in the castle nut, loosening the clamp bolt on the knuckle, and tightening the nut. To change the seal though, you will need to remove the bottom half of the housing and take the shaft out.

I've got those "expensive bushings" if you need them. Much less cost than what CNH charges.
