Farmall Starter Switch

Rebuilt the starter for a 1955 Farmall 100. Ordered a new starter switch from Steiner for $12. The starter works perfectly if I run a direct feed from the battery to the exterior electrode on the starter. However, it will not crank with the switch installed. It appears the electrode on the switch isn't making contact with the starter electrode based on some arching marks I noticed. I'm assuming this switch from Steiner is an aftermarket. Help would be appreciated.

Sometimes the post erodes and gets to low and sometimes the switches leave something to be desired. Don't know what you have. Sometimes the mounting holes can be enlarged and the switch moved a little for contact. But if good contact is not made the switch or post will fail faster.

I agree, sounds like the start switch contactor isn't making good contact with the external starter post. In cases where the starter post is pitted burned and corroded, I've had some luck filing the post HOWEVER if the starter post is worn/burned down too short it needs replaced. I've also had some luck enlarging or relocating the holes in a starter switch so it gets moved closer to the starter post and then they work again. Its also important the starter switch push down button gets fully depressed down and tight.

My FIRST suspect is the starter post is too short or burned and pitted (IE needs replaced),,,,,,,,,Second is the starter switch isnt located close enough so there's insufficient switch/starter contact (drill out switch mounting holes),,,,,,,,,,,,Third the push button isn't full/deep enough being depressed,,,,,,,,,,,Fourth faulty switch (may be mounting hole locations)

This assumes its a saddle mount on starter push to start switch and cables and connections and battery are alllllllll good. Just to be safe remove and clean and wire brush and re attach all cables and connections and grounds.

Assuming you have the saddle sw mounted in the correct position so you pull the lever to start. Too many of the new sw the post will turn when the nutis tightened thus the contac cannot be made when the button is pushed. Check to see if the stud is solid and cannot turn when the nut is tightened let is know what you find.

I just took a quick look and that starter switch is for sale here, on this site, for under $3. Why would you buy it from some one else and then ask those who use this site to help you ?
I suggest that you call the people that you bought it from to get answers to your problem. The people who run this site are to polite to tell you to get lost!
