Hello, I am in the process of upgrading the original wiring on my 1971 F1066. Putting a self-exciting one wire alternator on it. I wanted to find and remove the old external regulator but can't find it. I was wondering where it might be. Didn't want to have to remove anymore sheet metal than need be looking for the thing. Thanks, YVC

The old alternator is internal regulated on all 1066 I have been around.706-806 series those old girls whether they had generator or alternator had regulator below steering wheel behind square panel held by for bolts.Scott

Thanks for the location. This one is definitely externally regulated as the alternator had the two wire blades side beside on the back instead of the two blades next to each other on the curved part of the alternator. I had the back of the alternator changed and the internal regulator put in it to do away with the external regulator and the rotted wiring feeding it. Just couldn't find the old regulator. Will check under that panel,

No External reg on a 66 and why in god's name do you want to install a one wire . Just use the org , they have worked for how many years now so why reinvent the wheel . Themain wire runs from the alt to the amp gauge to the starter

Early 66 series tractors had external regulators.

It's nice to keep them original, but a bad wiring harness on an early tractor with reg under dash can have too much resistance and cause system to overcharge, and boil batteries, one wire is a quick fix
