New B owner

So I was doing some road maintenance with my neighbor the other day and long story short, he gave me a farmall B. I'll be picking it up Friday. I'm excited because red power has been in my life forever. First tractor I ever remember was my dads 450 wide front. My great uncle farmed with a 350 and several others and my uncle had an H.

How can I identify the year model? Any other links to good info about these?

It looks to be in decent shape but he said the magneto is out and needs to be replaced. I'll check that out.

I really want to use it for cultivating a small garden I want to put in but it has no attachments with it. Can a set of bolt on cultivators be fabricated?

My plow, disc and other implements are all 3 point that I use with my '50 8N.

I also plan to use it as a general hauler for a wagon and maybe pull the rotocycle shredder.
Any other ideas as to how I could put it to work?

I have 10 acres to care for and as said before, will be putting in a small garden.

the serial number plate is riveted to the seat bracket and is hard to find. if it still has the original seat brackets it should be there. walk up to the tractor from the back. grab the left seat bracket and then look down where it bolts to the deck. the tag should be on the inside of the bracket, about the size of a business card. i have a 41, they did not have hydraulics, but an exaust powered lift was available. down and dirty, mount a powersteering pump off the fanbelt and use that for your hydraulics. i have a prince pto pump on my b, use it to drive a log splitter, and it has a woods 59 belly mower under it. i dont know if all b's do this, but i have loaded rear tires, and you have to be gentle with the clutch because it will do some pretty good wheelie's if you are too quick on the clutch. it will make you pucker!!!

I picked up a b last summer and picked up a set of cultivators from a frend hear on the board. he may have a extra set, where are you located? bob

You live where they are all around you. There are a couple of salvage places on US83 that I have traveled by several times from SW KS thru Abilene to my brother in Austin.

Ther are cults for sale and you should be able to find some in your area keep looking as lots of them were used in their day.

Well I picked the tractor up today. It is serial number 155561. I assume this is a '46 B.

The magneto was removed from the tractor some years ago and was left on the seat. It's froze up and rusted. So, I plan to convert this to a distributor. What all do I need to make this happen?
