air in hydralic oil 756

I have a 756 that I put a 17 gpm pump on and am getting air in the fluid and sounds like the pump is whining or cavitating. It builds up 1500 psi on the remotes but takes 2 or 3 seconds when i hit the lever. The flowmeter reads 12 gpm at pto. At idle i think it was about 5 gpm. Over filled by around 6 gallons and am well over the filter. I have the cover over the pto off and fluid runs down from above on right side when running unless remote is on. The mcv pump seems to be working normally.

Would a o ring in the pump extention cause the air bubbles? Is there a screen on the suction tube under the pto? Is there a return tube that runs from remotes back to the pickup tube that I am missing?

Thanks for the replies.

Did you insert the suction tube from the filter side after installing the new pump. That is the only way to properly install tube. If you did not , you most likely have a suction leak right at that tube. The seal behind the filter that the tube goes into needs to be replaced most of the time when you take the tube out during pump replacement. Over filling will not eliminate leakage due to the churning oil at that spot from pump drive gear on pto shaft.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I know i have a little fluid coming from there with the filter out and it overfull. I will get a new one on there.

Myself i do not like using a 17 gpm pump because the filter will only handle around 14-15 GPM and unless you add the filter housing extension and the longer industrial fliter or you go with the stacked filter housing available after market you are starving the pump . I have been installing the 15 GPM' pumps and squeaking by , then i also have been installing the pressure relief either out of a 1066 to bring the pressures up since a lot of the newer equipment requires more pressure . Myself i do not like the extended filer housings for stacking two filters because there is a chance that they may get ripped off when they plant the tractor in the filed as guys around here don't stop till they can step off the platform with out stepping down . Just one big rock and two too many tractors pulling could rip them off as i see it , but that is just me .

Next time I run across the newer style filter housing I'll get that dual filter kit. I mainly use the 756 to plant and I am dragging a splitter bar behind my 7000jd planter. It would pick it up but was real slow.

Replaced the lip seal on short suction tube seal. Went on easy. Still have the air. What all do I need to do to get the suction tube for the filter out. I think I can get the bolt out for it. Will the long suction tube come out of the hitch pump cover?

Any tips on removing the retainer in the filter housing?

Thanks
