Farmall AV valve tick

Hello Everyone, I have a 1941 Farmall AV. I noticed when its running there is a tick in the motor. I pulled the spark plugs one by one and noticed the tick went away when I pulled #2. Would this be a valve? if so which one and how would I go about fixing it? Sorry if these are dumb questions i'm still pretty green on this subject. Thanks

If the "tick" can be described as a metallic click like a teaspoon tapping gently on a cast iron skillet, it probably needs a valve adjustment. If it is more like a very short hiss, it may be a valve leaking. Do a compression check before all other analysis. Make sure the battery is fully charged, the spark plugs are all removed, the ignition is off, and the throttle wide open. These steps assure fast rotation and good readings on the compression tester. A nice -counted- 6 engine rotations are needed to build full test compression in the tester. Write down all readings. Next put a teaspoon full of oil in each spark plug hole. Wait for 15 minutes to assure the oil gets spread around the cylinder perimeter. Do the compression test again, writing down the info. Let us know the results. Jim
