I"m working on a 140 for a farmer, getting it ready for spring. I want to replace the oil in the unit in the center of the tractor that raises the cultivators, transmission and bull gear/final drives. Can someone tell me what oil to use in each. Also what engine oil would you recommend 10w30 ? Thanks

HytranII for the hydraulic unit. Need to read the manual to properly drain, refill and purge air. Might want to clean the screen/filter also. It is held in by the 4 small bolts on the left side of the reseviour. I use Quaker State 10W30 in all of my older engines.

Use 80-90w gear oil in the transmission and final drives. Don't over fill the transmission. It takes 5 qts if the tractor has the PTO. Some later model 140 tractors had HiTran in the transmission from the factory but most folks use the heavier gear oil. The level plug for the transmission is on RH side of housing behind the brake rod on that side.

Just FYI "Hytran" is a generic term to mean whatever the latest CaseIH product is. You can no longer purchase original "Hytran" or even "Hytran Ultra." The current product is "Hytran Ultraction" if I am not mistaken.

New Holland Mastertran Ultraction is the same exact product, if you have a New Holland dealer nearby.

John Deere Hygard is fine too, if the Deere dealer is closest.

!40 is not that picky. I use:

Engine: Rotella T 15w-40
Hydraulic: NAPA Universal Tractor Fluid (HyTran compatible)
Trans/Final: SuperTech 80w-90 Gear Oil.

Don't buy the hype on HyTran. Back in the day, I bought a five gallon drum from the dealer. I peeled off the HyTran label and there was a Shell Donax label underneath. There was also the address label from the IH depot to the dealer, so it wasn't just the dealer doing it, it was IH.
