Any idea what I am doing wrong trying to remove the starter on my IHC 460 utility. I removed the three bolts. Removed the left steering arm and the linkage bolt under the starter. I still can't get the darn thing out. What am I missing?

Well I got it off FINALLY There may be an easier way, but I couldn't find it. I had to remove the left side steering arm. The linkage to the handle behind the starter, a 3/8 hydraulic line and a hydraulic line that took a 1 3/8 wrench. I had to run all over the neighborhood to find a 1 3/8 open end wrench. But it's off, and the starter works like it should outside the tractor. Go figure.

Your problems with getting the starter out is why jobs take longer than the owner, service manager and customers think it should. Now, as far as the starter working as I should when out, that doesn't mean a whole lot. No load on it , no problem. You need to inspect and test each part of the starter by taking it apart and knowing what to look for.
