International B275

HELLO New to posting on here.

Recently purchased a B275 and it has trouble starting, I stripped the wireing down to basics as it will be going through a full refurb.

Glow plugs have been replaced and are wired up and are working but seems the battery which is also new gets worn down by the starter and runs out of juice.

The tractor is missing its original dynamo and control box so ive got an alternator which I will install instead is anyone out there able to tell me how I could install it.

Hi. originally the B-275s were a positive ground(earth) Lucas electrical system with a generator. Most alternator systems are now
negative ground(earth) systems. Since you use the word dynamo, I assume you live in the UK. Here in North America the Delco 10SI
single wire alternator is the choice for generator to alternator conversion as it has inbuilt regulator.

Re glow plus, did you replace with original or newer style? See link below for newer style.

Hitachi 14231 from a Nissan PU is very nice and wires the same as a Delco. Output terminal to 35 amp fuse link then to amp meter or battery positive. L terminal to dash lamp to keyed 12 when on (or a diode or 10 ohm resistor in place of the dash lamp), and a short wire from the S terminal to the Output (big) terminal. Simple ad fool proof. Jim

It doesn't take much battery power to turn over a B275. Of course, it has to charged. I've got a Hitachi alternators on all of my B275s. All came off of junk
Subarus and much better quality then the Delco 10SIs.

The OEM glow-plug system is terrible and those plugs will burn out if voltage gets over a 2 volts. Changing over to a Bosch 12 volt glow-plug system makes a
big improvement in starting and it is cheap.

It has been so long since I first got them, I don't remember how they were hooked up. None had any electrics where polarity mattered since the original Lucas generators were long gone. All of mine are hooked up NEG to chassis now. I know my oldest one got a Delco 10SI stuck on it at first. I got fed up with it since the SI is physically so big the hood would hit it every time I opened or closed it. SI series is pretty inefficient for its size. I later put in more compact Hitachis. This one is my oldest with the CAV inline pump and air-governor and Delco 10SI. I rebuilt the pump last year. Found all the parts in England.

JDEM, thanks. The B-250,275,414, and later models were a very durable tractor. We had B-414D,434 and later 384. In my teenage years I spent a lot of time driving the 414 and 434. Wish they had had those new glow plugs back in the 1960/70s. The 384 was the first one to be negative ground with Lucas alternator.
