Could anyone please explain to me what is the difference between the tachometer P/N 66344C1 for a synchromesh transmission and P/N 66455C1 for the hydrostatic drive. Since both of these tachometers are driven by the same cable assembly on the diesel engine why are there two different part numbers from IH.

Not knowing for certain I would suspect the PTO speed is at different RPM and other similar differences. Sam

Just a guess would be that the gear tractor would have the speeds for various gears printed on the face ?? Another possibility could be a different RPM for rated pto speed? I'm sure either would probably fit and work if you only are interested in engine hrs.

Hydro tractors had a speedometer, at least the newer Hydro 84 did.

I am thinking like the others, the markings on the tach face likely different.
